'Let's talk menopause' has been the CIPD's
clarion call to organisations since we launched
our workplace guidance over three years ago.
During that time, we've seen real momentum
build to create menopause-friendly workplaces.
In 2019, just 10% of organisations had a
framework to support people through
menopause transition: in 2022 that's increased
three-fold to 30%.
This marks real progress, but there are still too
many workplaces where menopause remains a
taboo subject and employees feel unable to
seek the support they need to stay in work and
thrive. CIPD research shows that a quarter of
women who had been unable to go into work
due to menopausal symptoms had not felt able
to disclose their symptoms to management. The
result is that many people suffer in silence while
often a few small practical adjustments could
make a world of difference to someone
experiencing menopause transition.
